Polly Mack was a loving concerned mother who attended parent support groups at the Mental Wellness Center while her son Phillip participated as a member of the Fellowship Club. Phillip was a charming man who enjoyed the activities offered through the Mental Wellness Center.
Phillip was in his late 50s when Polly passed away. As a result of careful planning, Polly’s trust was set up to assist her son during his remaining life, and the Mental Wellness Center was named as the ultimate beneficiary. When Phillip passed away in 2014, 100 percent of the remaining trust assets came to the Mental Wellness Center as Polly’s legacy gift to the organization that had served both her and her son during their lifetimes.
This wonderful gift included both real estate and investments and was a transformational gift for the Mental Wellness Center. The Mental Wellness Center received the gift of the Mack home and due to astute management by the Mental Wellness Center Board of Directors, this home was sold and the proceeds, plus investments, were used to acquire a larger home that was able to serve ten Mental Wellness Center clients and fund long-term rentals for 17 clients. The Mental Wellness Center was also able to pay off debt, increase cash flow, and build a healthy reserve fund that helps to protect and sustain the organization today.
The new house, purchased in 2017, is called Polly’s House, and carries on the special legacy of Polly Mack and her beloved son Phillip who will long be remembered by all who benefit today and in the future from their generosity.

“As a board member and a mental health professional in the community, I have seen firsthand the important and valuable work done by the Mental Wellness Center. Using a tax-wise IRA beneficiary designation, I have made provisions for the Mental Wellness Center in my estate plans, knowing that my future legacy gift will support their mission of offering education, advocacy and housing for those living with mental illness. I am proud to be a member of the Circle of HOPE and invite others to join me!”
“I have been associated with the Mental Wellness Center for twenty years, and am also a long-term NAMI member who appreciates the beneficial relationship between these two important organizations that foster positive changes in the lives of countless individuals and their families living with mental illness. To help ensure the continued success of these two great community assets, my wife and I have become members of the Circle of HOPE by including a bequest for the Mental Wellness Center and NAMI Santa Barbara County in our estate plans. We encourage all our Mental Wellness Center and NAMI friends to consider a legacy gift as well.”
